Meditation for Worship

If you want to judge how well a person understands Christianity, find out how much he makes of the thought of being God’s child, and having God as his Father. If this is not the thought that prompts and controls his worship and prayers and his whole outlook on life, it means that he does not understand Christianity very well at all.

Meditation for Worship

We do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day. For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen.

2 Corinthians 4:16-18 (ESV)

Meditation for Worship

Break the fatal enchantment that binds my evil affections,

   and bring me to a happy mind that rests in You,

   for You have made me and cannot forget me.

Let Your Spirit teach me the vital lessons of Christ,

   for I am slow to learn;

And hear my broken cries.

Meditation for Worship

Christ’s authority is exercised over the church for the saving of her from evil, and the supplying of her with everything good for her.

Meditation for Worship

It is a happy circumstance for us when we can praise God as our strength, song, and salvation; for God sometimes gives a secret strength to His people, and yet they question their own salvation, and cannot, therefore, sing of it. Many are, no doubt, truly saved, but at times they have so little strength, that they are ready to faint, and therefore they cannot sing: when strength is imparted and salvation is realized then the song is clear and full.

Meditation for Worship

The great thing, if one can, is to stop regarding all the unpleasant things as interruptions of one’s own or real life. The truth is of course that what one calls the interruptions are precisely one’s real life—the life God is sending one day by day.
